A child’s foot doesn’t stop growing until a couple of years after puberty and whilE most conditions self-resolve, it’s always a good idea to know the difference between what is ‘going to be okay’ and what should ‘require further attention’. PAIN IN-BETWEEN TOES

BIG TOE PAIN

The big Toe is one hell of a unit and sometimes it can be quite sore when we walk or wear shoes. There are a number of causes that may cause pain around the big toe joint. We can help locate the cause and offer solutions to resolve the pain or even work around it.

COLD AND PAINFUL TOES

Particularly in lower temperatures, the blood vessels at the end of our toes can play up leading to color changes and painful sores on our toes. Treatments include regulating temperature around the foot and aiding circulation to the feet.

While there isn’t much that can be done to correct deformities without surgery, plenty can be done to try and alleviate any pain caused by the toes in question.

NEUROLOGICAL

A number of factors can result in a loss of sensations like pressure, heat, or proprioception. We can conduct tests to identify any declines and offer advice on management.

Sometimes with age our circulation can start to decline and we may start noticing cold or discolored feet. Often we may notice some fluid building up or veiny appearances around our feet. Whist it usually isn’t anything serious, it may signal underlying conditions that may require further attention. GOUT

Gout can be known as a form of arthritis characterized by severe pain, redness and tenderness around joints. This happens when too much uric acid crystallizes and deposits in the joints like the big toe joint and sometimes the ankle joint.

DIABETES

Having diabetes increases your risk of foot complications including ulcers and amputations. Monitoring your feet daily can prevent serious complications. People with Diabetes are strongly advised to see Podiatrists to ensure everything is going okay.

Excessive blood glucose levels for prolonged periods of time can damage blood vessels and nerves which are essential for healing, balance and sensations.

Swelling can often be a sign of an injury, fluid retention and/or many other possibilities. Once we have worked out the cause, we can work towards treatments.

MUSCLES & TENDONS

Usually related to some cramming of the structures during activity due to hyper-mobility of the joints in your foot. We can often limit those movements using different types of shoes and/or some insoles to limit the crunch.

Whilst there are different types, Arthritis refers to acute or chronic tenderness in our joints. In our feet, this can limit some of our movements which are vital to walk efficiently. In many cases, we can promote or even limit movement in the foot to reduce arthritic related pain.

WARTS

Scheduling a Home Visit

Given the nature of home visits, it’d be near impossible to book an appointment online in a timely manner. As such, once you submit this form with your preferred date and time/s, we will contact you to confirm your booking. Until you receive a call or email confirming your home visit, the home visit is not confirmed.

Payment

Home visits are charged a little differently to our clinic appointments. This is to address costs associated with things like admin travel and time. To see our schedule of fees, click here.

Attendance

Once a home visit has been booked in and confirmed, it is your responsibility to ensure you are home at the reserved time. In the event you or the client resides in a gated community, critical care unit or other such location that requires security access, you are responsible to inform the necessary staff of the location the appointment is taking place.

Home Visit Disclaimer

Whilst we provide home based services to you, your main contact will remain your GP or Case manager
The Toe truck is open during standard business hours Monday to Friday and does not provide emergency services or any services outside the scope of a Podiatrist. Our scope during home visits are limited to both the Health professional and clients’ safety, best practice, and the environment of your home.
In any case of a medical emergency, your first point of call would need to be to Emergency Services or GP.

Cancellation Policy

We know your time is valuable, the same as our Podiatrist’s time. Thus we would require at least 12 hours’ (in-clinic) or 24 hours (Home visit) notice if you cannot keep your in clinic appointment so that we can give your appointment time to another patient who can attend.
A cancellation fee of $30 applies to non-attendance or late cancellations. The fee is not rebatable through Medicare.
If there are any circumstances beyond your control which prevent you from cancelling your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible.

PRE HOME VISIT RISK & SAFETY ASSESSMENT

In order to send one of your Health Professionals our to our clients home’s it is important that you confirm that;

You consent to one of our staff members visiting your home
You provide us with any special instructions to access your home and preferred mode of entry.
If someone else will be present during our visit
That if you do have pets in the house or garden, where the health professional cannot preform the treatment safely the pet is placed in another room during the visit.
Nobody will be smoking in the house during the visit
You will inform us of any significant alcohol or drug consumption in the house, if any before our visit.
If anyone in the house has a history of aggression
If there are weapons or firearms in the house, that they are stored to the standard provided for by the Firearms Act 1996 ( Schedule4).
If anyone in the house recently suffering from an infective illness? (eg flu, scabies, chicken pox, TB, norovirus gastroenteritis).
There are no other factors that might make it difficult for a clinician to conduct a treatment at home? For example, suitable space or lighting available to conduct the treatment?
You consider it safe for a clinician to conduct a visit to this client’s home

COVID-19 RISK ASSESSMENT

Nobody in the home has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or awaiting test results for COVID-19? i.e confirmed case or high risk for potential case
Have not been overseas or on a cruise ship in the last 14 days
Have not been in contact with, or do you live with, someone who has COVID-19, or waiting test results for COVID-19? i.e contact with a confirmed case or high risk for potential case
Have not had any symptoms such as fever, night sweats or chills, or respiratory symptoms such as runny nose, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath?
You will remain vigilant for the development of fever or flu-like symptoms as well as avoid contact with anyone who is unwell or has recently travelled overseas.
To practice safe social distancing, please avoid having any visitors and limit the number of family members within the home when your health professional attends.
Clinicians coming to see you at home will be continuing to you these questions prior to entering your home. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate ask us, your care coordinator, or other medical professionals involved in your care.
Services will continue as per usual for now.
Be aware this is a changing environment and we will update you as recommendations change.
Education for clients; To prevent infection please practice good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene by:

Practicing excellent hand hygiene
Avoiding Touching your face
Maintaining >1.5m distance from client/therapist at all time where possible
Notifying your therapist & Care Coordinator as soon as any changes in symptoms or contact arise
